Machine Shop Project Spotlight: Mig Welding

Posted on Feb 22, 2024

Pen Manufacturing offers MIG welding services in the Southern California area. MIG (metal inert gas) welding is offered in aluminum, stainless steel and structural steel. The below video shows one of our employees working on stainless steel, which we hold a certification for with AWS D1.6 Stainless Steel.

The major advantage of MIG Welding as you can see in the video is it is a very fast welding process that still has the high quality strength needed with joining two metals together. Mig is also flux-free which eliminates the chance of entrapped slag in the weld. This can cause a void in the weld compromising the strength.

About Mig Welding:

MIG welding, or Metal Inert Gas welding, is a process that utilizes a continuous solid wire electrode, shielding the weld pool from contaminants with a stream of inert gas. This popular welding method finds extensive application across various industries due to its ability to handle a wide range of materials, including stainless steel.
